Homage to Patagonia

Chile-Argentina border

Bariloche, Argentina

By the refuge the first night of our trek.

Where we almost died on Day 2...

Our tent surrounded the morning of Day 3

At the cumbre of the last pass, Day 3

Patagonia beauty

The burning muñeca (doll) on New Year's Eve. You put a wish for something you want to happen or continue in the heart and for something you want to stop or never happen again and then watch it burn baby.

On the road back to Mendoza, New Year's Day

If we had only been on motorcycles and made it all the way to Venezuela, it would have been just like the Motorcycyle Diaries. As it was, it was close, sort of. We started out in La Paz, bused it to Cochabamba for my host sister's birthday, then an 18 hour bus ride to Iquique, Chile, then to Santiago, then to Osorno, then across the border to Bariloche, Argentina, then a 5-day trek that we started on Christmas Day, then to Mendoza for New Year's to visit our friend Federico and his family, then back to La Paz. Whew, I think it ended up being something like 108 hours in the bus in 3 weeks. But it was well worth it.
