Todos Santos

Todos Santos, All Saints Day, is celebrated November 1st. Families who have lost someone in
the year pervious create a shrine to that person and invite their extended family, friends, and neighbors to comemorate the loved one's life by praying, drinking chica (corn alcohol) and collecting t'anta wawas, bread babies in Quechua. Above, Arani, the pueblo of my host father's family where we spent the night praying and drinking copious amounts of chica. Below are t'anta wawas, dried llama fetuses used in offerings to the Pachamama, and other goods for sale at a street market in the altiplano city of Oruro the night before Todos Santos.
